Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- Police have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the bank of the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram.

The body was found in the city's Notun Fishery Ghat area on Tuesday after local residents alerted police, according to Sadarghat River Police Station chief Abdur Rab.

He said that the body appeared to have been carried in by the tide before becoming lodged on the riverbank.

The woman, believed to be middle-aged, has yet to be identified.

"Her left leg was broken and there appeared to be an injury around her ankle," Rab said.

The body has been sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
