Dhaka, May 13 -- Veteran Awami League politician and freedom fighter Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has died while undergoing medical treatment.

He passed away at Dhaka's Square Hospital at 10:20am on Wednesday, said Niaz Mormed Elite, a central Jubo League leader and voter in Mosharraf's constituency.

Mosharraf had been arrested in Dhaka's Vatara Thana area on Oct 27, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government.

The following year, on Aug 5, 2025, he fell seriously ill due to old age complications and was admitted to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital from the prison hospital. He was released on bail on Aug 14.

Until his death, Mosharraf was a member of the Awami League Presidium.
