Dhaka, April 28 -- BNP lawmaker Fazlur Rahman has said members of freedom fighters' and martyrs' families "cannot join Jamaat-e-Islami", saying it would be a "double offence" if any of them did so.
The Kishoreganj-4 MP made the assertion during a discussion on the motion of thanks on the president's address.
"I say it again, members of martyr families cannot be in Jamaat. If they do, it is a double offence," he said.
Following his remarks, the Jamaat-led Opposition Bench members protested loudly in the House during the session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.
