Dhaka, March 20 -- Two teenagers have confessed to strangling a 4-year-old girl in Mymensingh's Iswarganj Upazila to allegedly fund their drug addiction.

In a statement before the court on Friday, the duo said they killed Mariam Akter after snatching her silver necklace to manage cash, said Atharabari Police Investigation Centre chief Md Abdur Razzaq.

Mariam's body was recovered from a clay stove next to her house around 6pm on Thursday, hours after she went missing, said Ishwarganj Police chief Rabiul Azam.

She was the daughter of Mizanur Rahman, who filed a case later at night, leading to the arrest of two adolescent boys aged 15 and 16.

One of them was her cousin.
