Dhaka, March 17 -- The pressure of homebound travellers and vehicles has increased on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways in Gazipur as people begin leaving for their village homes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
On Tuesday, police and other law-enforcing agencies were active at several points to prevent gridlock, but traffic moved slowly in some areas.
Workers and people from different professions began leaving Gazipur from Monday night after garment factories started closing for the Eid holidays, according to Nawjor Highway Police Station's Inspector Sawgat Alam.
"As a result, crowds of vehicles and homebound people were seen at different points on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways," he said.
