Dhaka, Sept. 26 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has left New York for Bangladesh after wrapping up his visit to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Tarique, accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman, departed John F Kennedy International Airport on an Emirates flight at 11pm local time on Friday.

Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN Irene Khan, Ambassador to the United States Tareq Md Ariful Islam and senior embassy officials saw them off at the airport.

BNP leaders and activists and members of its affiliated organisations living in the US lined the roadside outside the terminal to bid farewell to the prime minister.
