Speaker Hafiz leaves for Iran to attend Khamenei's funeral
Dhaka, July 2 -- Speaker of the Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has departed Dhaka to attend the funeral of Iran's former supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
He flew from Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport at 7:30am on Thursday, the Parliament Secretariat said.
The speaker is scheduled to return to the country on Jul 4, it added.
The funeral was planned to be held in March, but it was postponed due to the ongoing tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran.
The three-day funeral programme will be held in Tehran, while ceremonies in the holy city of Qom will begin on Jul 7.
