Dhaka, March 9 -- A brazen theft has struck Satkhira's Katia Temple, with thieves making away with gold ornaments, cash, and other valuables.

Sub-Inspector Pinku Mandal of Katia police outpost said the incident occurred late on Sunday night.

He visited the temple on Monday.

"The culprits broke eight large locks, including the main gate, before entering," said Gaur Dutta, president of the Satkhira Temple Association.

"They stole gold ornaments from the idols, money from the donation box, and even the CCTV hard disk."

This is not the first time the temple has been targeted, he said.

"Repeated burglaries continue because police have taken no effective steps," Dutta added.
