Dhaka, April 24 -- A government college in Rajshahi's Durgapur has been rocked by violence, vandalism and alleged assaults on teachers during ongoing degree examinations, in an incident authorities link to an extortion demand by local BNP activists.

At least five people, including the principal and a female lecturer, were injured at Daokandi Government University College on Thursday.

The college authorities allege the attack followed refusal to pay money.

The incident took place around midday while the 2024 degree second-year exams were in progress.

The campus and a 91m surrounding area were under Section 144, with police already deployed.
