Dhaka, May 9 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said restoring public confidence in police and improving the country's law and order situation are the government's immediate priorities.

The premier made the remarks in a message issued Saturday ahead of Police Week 2026, which is set to begin on Sunday.

The message was posted on Tarique's verified Facebook page on Saturday evening.

He will formally inaugurate the event with a colourful parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.

Highlighting the transition to democracy, Tarique noted that a democratic government has been established through a free and fair election after more than fifteen years.
