Bangladesh, May 22 -- In a reversal of decision, the government has announced that Eid holidays in more than 65,000 government primary schools across the country will begin from Saturday.

Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Public Relations Officer Tanvir Mia confirmed the development after 9pm on Friday.

"Eid holidays in government primary schools will begin from May 23. The institutions will remain closed until Jun 6, a Saturday."

Earlier, under an order issued on Mar 24, the Directorate of Primary Education had directed that schools remain open for the 10 Saturdays following the resumption of classes after Ramadan and Eid holidays.

The move was taken to address learning gaps caused by the month-long closure during Ramadan.
