Dhaka, March 21 -- The commerce minister has said the government has managed to keep commodity prices within the people's purchasing power.

After offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Sylhet on Saturday morning, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said the people elected them with "sky-high expectations".

"The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working to fulfil those expectations of the people."

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, who accompanied him in the Eid congregation, said they are committed to taking the country forward in a coordinated manner.

Both ministers attended prayers at the historic Shahi Eidgah ground at 8:30am and greeted the people afterwards.
