Dhaka, April 7 -- The Detective Branch (DB) of police has petitioned for Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the speaker of parliament during the ousted Awami League government, to be remanded to police custody for questioning in a case over a murder attempt during the July Uprising.

The two-day remand request was made on Tuesday by the investigating officer in the case, Inspector Mohsin Uddin of the Lalbagh Zonal Team of the DB police.

Produced at 1:55pm, Shirin was placed in the lockup at the CMM Court in Dhaka. She will be taken to court for the hearing.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi said the police's petition will be heard in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana.
