Police ban rallies, protests on Chattogram road after NCP, Chhatra Dal face off over Uprising graffiti
Dhaka, May 18 -- Police have prohibited all rallies and processions on a key Chattogram road after tensions flared between the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal over July Uprising graffiti being painted over.
The ban covers the main road from the GEC intersection to Dewanhat and nearby areas from Monday morning until further notice, under a public notice issued by Chattogram Police Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali under Section 30 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1978.
The row began when the city corporation repainted several elevated expressway pillars near Tiger Pass yellow and white, covering July Uprising graffiti.
