Dhaka, Feb. 26 -- Dhaka police have conducted a sweeping overnight operation in Mohammadpur and Adabor, arresting 100 suspected criminals as part of efforts to curb gangs, extortionists, and drug dealers.

The raids, carried out from 10pm Wednesday to 2am Thursday, were aimed at restoring public safety, officers said.

Tejgaon Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan said the operation was carried out to ensure people can safely observe fasting during the month of Ramadan and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr peacefully.

He also said police will continue such operations to ensure public safety and to prevent teenage gangs and robbers from operating in Mohammadpur.
