Dhaka, April 8 -- A bill cancelling the law that provided special security for members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family has been passed in parliament.

Another bill amending the Special Security Force (SSF) law to remove provisions for their security has also been approved.

The two bills were part of a total of 14 bills that were passed in two phases on Wednesday.

Muhammad Yunus-led interim government had decided on Aug 29, 2024, to repeal the law, 24 days after the fall of the Awami League government in a mass uprising.

The bill titled "Father of the Nation's Family Members Security (Repeal) Act, 2026" repeals the law introduced in 2009.
