Dhaka, March 17 -- A total of 1,237 sanitation workers of the Rajshahi City Corporation have received financial assistance from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The grants were distributed on Tuesday at the Green Plaza of the Nagar Bhaban by the corporation's administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.

Each worker received Tk 5,000, taking the total disbursement to Tk 6.19 million.

Many of the workers said this was the first time they had received such Eid support.

Speaking at the event, Riton expressed gratitude to the prime minister and said the initiative was meant to recognise the efforts of sanitation workers who keep the city clean.
