Bangladesh, July 9 -- Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said the next general election will be held under a caretaker government, reaffirming the government's political commitment to restoring the system.

At the Secretariat on Thursday, shortly after the verdict on the 15th Amendment was announced, he confirmed the arrangement when asked directly.

"That's what will happen, Allah willing," he said.

He credited BNP's movement for the system's return, calling it a product of the party's struggle.

Asked whether the arrangement would be termed an interim or a caretaker government, Asaduzzaman said the ministry would weigh the verdict's provisions against what works best, adding that public opinion would be sought before a final call is made...
