Dhaka, March 17 -- Prof ABM Obaidul Islam has assumed office as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University, pledging to secure a "prestigious" position in international rankings for Bangladesh's premier public university.

The professor of physics officially took charge on Tuesday afternoon from his predecessor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan.

Addressing an event at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom, Prof Obaidul said his primary mission would be to enhance the university's global visibility.

"With united effort, our desired goals are achievable. I seek everyone's cooperation to ensure a conducive environment for education, research, and student-friendly policies on campus," he said.
