Dhaka, Feb. 25 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pinned the rank badge on new Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir in a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

According to the PMO, the event was held at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Wednesday, with Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and his Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury in attendance.

Ali, a 15th BCS police cadre officer, was born on Apr 5, 1968, in Bagerhat.

He holds a BBA (Honours) and MCom from Dhaka University, followed by an MBA.

He has served as superintendent of police in Netrokona, Feni, and Magura, and in 2008 was DC of the Uttara Zone in Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

He later served in UN peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Ivory Coast.
