Dhaka, July 29 -- Police have obstructed the entry of National Citizen Party (NCP) activists to Habiganj despite their wait on the road for four hours.

They subsequently filed a case over a prior attack before returning to Moulvibazar.

From 5pm on Wednesday, police halted the NCP leaders' convoy at Muchhai, near the Kamaichhara police outpost in Bahubal Upazila.

NCP leaders attempted to negotiate with police officers to allow them to attend their scheduled programme in Habiganj during this time.

Police, however, refused them entry into the town, citing the imposition of Section 144 in the Habiganj municipal area.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police Tareq Mahmud said, "They were turned back solely out of security considerations.
