Dhaka, March 3 -- The government has removed Faruque Ahmed from his position as the managing director of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the entity responsible for operating the Dhaka Metro Rail.

The Road Transport and Highways Division cancelled the remaining term of his contractual appointment.

No successor, however, has yet been named to take over the leadership of the company.

The interim government appointed Faruque, an engineer with extensive experience in the construction and management of metro rail systems across various countries, on Feb 9, 2025.

At the time of his appointment, the government noted that he had been selected from a pool of 76 candidates following a competitive screening process.
