Dhaka, Feb. 19 -- Mehedul Islam, who previously served as a personal aide to the BNP chairman, has been appointed as the private secretary (PS) to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Meanwhile, the BNP chief's former PS Abdur Rahman Sunny has been named the assistant private secretary (APS) to the head of government.

The Ministry of Public Administration announced the decisions through separate gazette notifications on Wednesday.

One of the notifications said, "Mehedul Islam has been appointed on a contractual basis to the position of private secretary-2 to the prime minister.
