Dhaka, April 16 -- The Bangladesh Bar Council has temporarily suspended the lawyer's licence for Masdar Hossain, a former district judge and Supreme Court advocate, after "initial evidence was found" regarding allegations he had embezzled Tk 12.5 million from a client.

It also issued a notice calling for Masdar to explain within 15 days why his licence should not be permanently revoked.

The decision was taken "unanimously" at an emergency meeting of the Bangladesh Bar Council, the body that regulates lawyers, according to a press release on Wednesday.
