Dhaka, Dec. 12 -- A man has confessed to killing a freedom fighter and his wife in Rangpur's Taraganj after planning to steal money from their home to repay a debt of around Tk 8,000, police say.

Rangpur Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain shared the information during a media briefing on Friday after the suspect was arrested in the killings of freedom fighter Jogesh Chandra Roy and his wife Subarna Roy.

The arrestee, identified with the single name Morsalin, 22, is a student of Taraganj Degree College. He also worked as an assistant to a tile worker.

He was detained from his home on Thursday night.
