Dhaka, Feb. 13 -- A man has been beaten to death by an angry crowd after he reportedly hacked a youth and severed his hand in Barguna's Pathorghata.

The "mob" later looted and then carried out an arson attack on the house of the victim, identified as 38-year-old Abul Bashar Sujon from Lemua village under Raihanpur Union.

Pathorghata Police Sub-Inspector Asit Kumar confirmed the incidents.

Reaz Mia, 28, whose hand was severed, was admitted to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.

Police said Reaz and Sujon engaged in a scuffle after the latter attacked Reaz's younger brother Kalu Mia, 20, on Thursday night.
