Dhaka, April 7 -- In a landmark move, parliament has passed an amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Act formally defining enforced disappearances as crimes against humanity.
The change was incorporated into the ICT Act through the International Crimes Tribunals (Amendment) Bill-2026, presented in parliament on Tuesday.
Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman highlighted the inclusion of enforced disappearance within the definition of crimes against humanity during the session.
The bill, reflecting revisions introduced earlier through an ordinance during the interim government's tenure, was placed for immediate consideration and passed by voice vote.
