Bangladesh, Aug. 20 -- Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal will administer the oath of office to Bangladesh's newly elected president, according to an opinion given by the law ministry.

MA Awal, joint secretary (opinion) at the law ministry, confirmed the matter on Thursday.

"We have given our opinion to the relevant department that there will be no violation of the law if Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal administers the oath," he said.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on Jul 24, citing personal health reasons. Under the Constitution, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has been serving as acting president until a new president takes office.
