Bangladesh, July 31 -- The recent suspension of several prominent faculty members at the University of Dhaka, including Prof Sadeka Halim and Prof Abdul Muhit, has sent a chill through the academic community. On July28, the university administration cited grounds of "moral turpitude" and conduct "contrary to the spirit of the July Uprising" as the reasons for their suspensions. On the surface, these actions appear to be a righteous exercise in administrative accountability. Being a professor does not prevent anybody from being punished for wrongdoings.
