Justice Khairul Haque secures final bail, clearing path to release
Dhaka, Aug. 10 -- Former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque has secured six months' bail in an attempted murder case filed with Banani Police Station in Dhaka.
A High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher issued the order on Monday.
With bail granted in all cases against Justice Khairul, there is now no legal obstacle to his release from jail, his lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju said.
Justice Khairul became the country's 19th chief justice on Sep 30, 2010, and retired on May 17, 2011.
Under his leadership, the Appellate Division on May 10, 2011 scrapped the 13th constitutional amendment, effectively ending the caretaker government system for elections.
