Dhaka, May 17 -- Protesting students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) have suspended their sit-in and unlocked the administrative building following an assurance from the vice-chancellor that the suspect behind an attempted rape on campus would be arrested within 72 hours.

The students withdrew their eight-hour blockade around 6pm on Sunday after Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan visited the protest venue and committed to a swift arrest.

Earlier in the day, around 10am, a group of female students locked the two main entrances of the new administrative building, completely halting official activities.
