Bangladesh, Aug. 13 -- Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Oli Ahmad has entered the presidential race as the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.

A delegation led by AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad submitted his nomination papers at the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon on Thursday.

Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman, the opposition leader in parliament, proposed Oli's candidacy, while NCP MP for Narayanganj-4 Abdullah Al Amin seconded it.

The alliance had earlier announced Oli as its consensus candidate.

Shafiqur said on Aug 9 that the opposition bloc had decided to contest the election as part of its "democratic responsibility".
