Dhaka, Feb. 13 -- Jamaat-e-Islami has accused election authorities of deliberately delaying vote counting as part of a "conspiracy", warning that it could launch a tougher political movement in response.
A Jamaat delegation visited the Election Commission (EC) in the early hours of Friday as counting continued into the night.
Speaking to reporters around 4am, the party's Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair alleged that results were being manipulated "to favour a certain party".
"Vote counting began at 5pm, and it is now 4am" he said. We are noticing abnormal delays in announcing results in some cases."
He said they expected the results to be announced between 8pm and 9pm.
