Bangladesh, July 21 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to death for slaughtering his wife at their home in the capital's Maddhya Badda nearly nine years ago.

Judge Md Sadequin Habib Bappy of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judges' Court in Dhaka delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

The convict, Manir Hossain, was also fined Tk 100,000.

Court bench assistant Md Abul Kashem said Manir had been out on bail.

Following the conclusion of closing arguments on Jul 14, the court fixed Tuesday for the verdict, cancelled his bail and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Manir was produced before the court from prison ahead of the verdict on Tuesday. After the judgment was pronounced, he was sent back to jail with the conviction warrant....
