Dhaka, July 30 -- Hundreds of migrants have been swimming from Morocco to the Spanish territory of Ceuta, overwhelming local border authorities, ABC News reports.

More than 1,500 migrants, including adults and minors, have reached the enclave by sea in recent days, according to Ceuta regional leader Juan Jesus Vivas.

Vivas said reception centres were "collapsed and saturated", while hundreds of migrants were sleeping outside an overcrowded reception facility.

He also said previous attempts had proved deadly, with 60 bodies spotted at sea over the past year.

Spain's Interior Ministry declined to confirm the number of arrivals, referring reporters to its next migration report due on Aug. 3.
