Dhaka, June 17 -- The High Court has issued a rule asking why a man named Shahadat Hossain Shyamal, who was "paralysed" in a reported police shooting in Munshiganj seven years ago, should not be given Tk 50 million as compensation.

A bench of Justice Khijir Ahmed Chowdhury and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury passed the order on Wednesday, asking the home secretary, inspector general of police, Munshiganj district police chief and other relevant respondents to respond within the next four weeks.

The survivor has been ordered to be given Tk 200,000 in damages until the rule is settled.

The writ petitioner Shahinuzzaman told bdnews24.com that the court ordered immediate compensation of Tk 200,000 for the survivor's medical expenses.
