Bangladesh, Aug. 21 -- A surgeon allegedly stitched up the abdomen of a woman leaving surgical gauze inside during a caesarean section at a private hospital in Faridpur, leading to her death after nearly six weeks of medical care.

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain visited the victim's home in Rajbari's Baliakandi Upazila on Friday to offer condolences to the family following the tragedy involving Konika Mondal.

The minister said a five-member investigation panel was formed on Thursday night to probe the incident, pledging strict action against those responsible if the allegations are substantiated.
