Dhaka, Sept. 27 -- Leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League have reportedly organised a cake-cutting event in Shariatpur to mark ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's birthday.

The incident took place near Jora Bridge in the Gorom Bazar area of Zajira Upazila on Saturday night, Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle) Md Mohiuddin Miraj said.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the gathering for Hasina, who faces the death penalty after being convicted of crimes against humanity, prompting those present to flee.

Locals said several young men had assembled in the area to celebrate Hasina's birthday and had arranged to cut a cake.
