Dhaka, June 29 -- The government has appointed tax cadre official Ahsan Habib as the acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

A 15th batch officer of the income tax cadre, Ahsan replaces Abdur Rahman Khan.

He previously served as director general of the NBR's Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) and is a member of the board overseeing tax administration and human resource management.

The public administration ministry announced the appointment on Monday.

Ahsan has also been appointed acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division.
