Dhaka, Aug. 9 -- Four Bangladeshis have been detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on suspicion of smuggling gold and smartphones, Malaysia's national news agency Bernama reports.

Citing the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), the report said the four were apprehended with the assistance of the aviation security team based on preliminary intelligence.

The MCBA said gold, smartphones, and other items were seized during the operation, with an estimated market value of Tk 5.5 million.

The seized items include three gold ornaments, 12 smartphones, cash amounting to 5,000 ringgit, and passports of five Bangladeshi nationals.

Bernama said the detainees are under investigation per the country's immigration law.
