Former minister Dipu Moni denied bail in two Shahbagh murder charges
Dhaka, June 16 -- Former Awami League minister Dipu Moni has been denied bail in two murder cases filed over "killings" during the July movement in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque passed the order on Tuesday after hearing a bail petition filed on her behalf by lawyer Rashida Akter.
Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the Prosecution Division said the judge rejected the bail plea following the hearing.
One of the cases relates to the reported killing of scrap trader Md Monir, who joined student-led protests in the Chankharpul under Shahbagh Police Station on Aug 5, 2024, the day the Awami League government fell.
Monir was shot dead at the scene that afternoon.
