Dhaka, April 12 -- Senior Supreme Court lawyer and former law minister Shafique Ahmed has died.

He passed away at around 5:45pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical Hospital in Dhaka. He was 89.

"My father had been suffering from various age-related complications. We admitted him to the hospital yesterday, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). He passed away this afternoon," his son Mahbub Shafique told bdnews24.com.

A prominent legal expert, Shafique served as the minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs from 2009 to 2014 during the Awami League administration.
