Dhaka, April 12 -- A Mymensingh court has sentenced five people to life imprisonment in a murder case stemming from a land dispute in Haluaghat Upazila, ending a legal battle that lasted over 13 years.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Shamsuddin delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon, convicting five residents of Haluaghat's Mokamia village: Shukur Ali, Harez Ali, Amir Ali, Jomir Ali and Hatem Ali.
Each of them was also fined Tk 100,000, with another year's jail term in default of payment, said defence lawyer Harun-or-Rashid.
According to the case, a longstanding dispute over farmland existed between farmer Ahammad Ali and Shukur of the same village.
