Dhaka, June 2 -- A fire has ripped through at least 10 homes in Chattogram's Halisahar.

The blaze erupted at the Peshkar Bari on Road No. 4 in I-Block on Tuesday morning.

Monem Billah, an official at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Bandar Station, said preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from a firewood stove.

Between 10 and 12 semi-concrete and mud-built houses were gutted by the flames, though no casualties were reported, he added.

Firefighters were alerted around 9:45am, after which four units from Bandar and Agrabad stations rushed to the scene and brought the flames under control by 10:40am.

Fire official Monem said the extent of the damage could not be assessed immediately.
