Dhaka, March 9 -- A fire has broken out at a multi-storey commercial building in Dhaka's Mirpur.

Fire Service Duty Officer Lima Khanam said the incident was reported at 2pm on Monday.

The fire started on the third storey of a 10-storey building opposite the stadium in Mirpur-2, she said.

Four firefighting units have been dispatched to bring the flames under control.

The Fire Service could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire or reports of any casualties.

Fire Service spokesman Anowarul Islam said the fire at the LA Plaza building was reported at 1:52pm and firefighting units arrived on the scene and began trying to extinguish it at 1:58pm.

Four units are at work and another two units are on the way, he said.
