Dhaka, April 20 -- A fire has broken out in the basement of a building in Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Rafi Al Farooq, duty officer of the Fire Service Control Room, said the emergency service were informed about the fire incident at 12:38pm on Monday.

The fire was extinguished later within about half an hour, around 1:15pm, through the efforts of four units of firefighters.

He said, "There was a fire in the basement of the building, which has been doused. We have not yet received a detailed report."

He could not initially provide information on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
