Bangladesh, Aug. 25 -- A Dhaka court has ordered the arrest of former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak in an attempted murder case stemming from last year's July Uprising.

It also approved a petition to place former home secretary Jahangir Alam under arrest in a sedition case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the orders on Sunday after hearing separate petitions from investigators, according to defence lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi.

The case against Palak relates to an incident on Jul 19 last year, when a man named Abdul Alim was shot in the eye outside SOS Hermann Gmeiner College in Mirpur. After months of treatment, Alim filed a case on Apr 1 this year.
