Bangladesh, Sept. 2 -- A Dhaka court has denied bail to Bidisha Ershad, the former wife of late president Hussain Muhammad Ershad, in a case that saw her sentenced to two years in jail over alleged fraud over the sale of a flat.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir gave the order on Wednesday. As a result of the decision, she will have to remain in jail.

Dhaka Bar Association President Md Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan and several other lawyers represented Bidisha at the hearing. The plaintiff's lawyer, Advocate Hemayet Uddin Khan (Heron), opposed the bail petition.

After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea, Bidisha's lawyer Moniruzzaman Sabuj said.
