Dhaka, May 20 -- The Election Commission (EC) has sent letters to 23 political parties, including the ruling BNP and the National Citizen Party, demanding an account of their expenditures in the general election.

The parties have been asked to submit their election expenditure statements by Jun 13, Mohammad Manir Hossain, deputy secretary of the EC's election management wing, said on Tuesday.

In the Feb 12 parliamentary polls, a total of 50 political parties took part.

The official gazette notification of the election results was published on the night of Feb 13.

According to electoral laws, all participating parties are required to submit their expenditure reports within 90 days of the gazette publication.
