Dhaka, Feb. 11 -- Hours before Bangladesh heads to the general election, the Election Commission has dismissed rumours that the vote might not take place.

In a notice issued Wednesday evening, the EC urged voters not to be misled and to cast their ballots between 7:30am and 4:30pm on Thursday.

The commission said a section was spreading misinformation through social media and other channels to discourage voters.

The referendum and the national election will be held tomorrow (Feb 12) in 299 constituencies across the country, except Sherpur‑3, the notice read.

"Law-enforcing agencies are working to ensure that voters can cast their ballots safely," it added.
